Review of the Nespresso D60 Espresso Machine
The Nespresso Pixie D60 is fantastic for those who want a small, compact and very easy to use espresso machine. However, you should know that if you are looking for exceptionally high quality espresso, you should check out some of our other reviews in the semi automatic section. That is not to say that the espresso from the Pixie is not high quality, because it is. The issue though is that it takes pods made by Nespresso (much like a Keureg) so it does not produce the same quality as something that takes fresh grounds. However, its size (just 9 inches tall and 4.3 inches wide) makes it exceptional for those who have a space issue (great for college students) and its speed and ease of use are perfect for beginners and those who need their morning brew as quickly as possible.

Pros and Cons Explained
Quality of Espresso & Speed
The Nespresso Pixie D60 is a fantastic machine that offers price-efficient, quick, and quality brew in a very small package. However, you may have noticed that quality of brew is listed as both a pro and a con, and this is something we would like to go into further. Many espresso purists would argue that espresso made from pods is nowhere near the quality of real (freshly ground and tamped) espresso. We would have to agree. While the Pixie does make very good tasting drinks, it will not satisfy the appetite of someone who has a taste for freshly ground, tamped, and perfectly extracted espresso. However, it will do exceptionally well for users who are not overly particular (produces a very good tasting espresso), and want a drink that can be made with minimal human input and maximum speed. Speed is a major plus for many owners of the D60 in fact, as it is capable of brewing and completing a drink in about 30 seconds.
Size, Build Quality, and Price
Another major benefit of the Pixie D60 is that it is at least a couple hundred dollars cheaper than mid-level semi automatic machines. However, while this saves on initial costs, the pods are more expensive than beans, so you will need to weigh your needs vs costs in that regard. In terms of build quality and size, the Pixie is actually quite impressive. It features a 24oz removable water tank (easy to clean) and has a drip tray concealed at its base to save on space. Weighing in at just 9lbs, it is incredibly portable and perfect for people with space issues or who relocate frequently.
